Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to preside over a meeting with Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in New Delhi on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The agenda includes discussions on good governance, Operation Sindoor, and the upcoming caste census. This conclave arrives at a crucial juncture, bringing together leaders from the 20 NDA-ruled states to align strategies and discuss best practices.

A key focus of the meeting will be presentations by Chief Ministers on successful schemes and initiatives implemented in their respective states. These presentations aim to showcase innovative governance models that have led to impactful changes, from healthcare and education reforms to infrastructure development and digital governance. The goal is to encourage the adoption of proven methods across different states, fostering a unified approach to governance within the NDA framework.

Two significant resolutions are expected to be passed during the meeting. The first resolution will congratulate the Indian armed forces and Prime Minister Modi on the success of Operation Sindoor. Operation Sindoor was India's counterterror response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Recent revelations have highlighted the operation's scale and the damage inflicted on the Pakistani military, including the crippling of key air bases and the elimination of numerous terrorists. The operation also marked a historic moment with the active participation of Indian women fighter pilots and two women colonels stepped into live combat for the first time, leading air defence units.

The second resolution will commend the central government's decision to conduct a caste enumeration during the upcoming census. This decision marks a significant policy shift, as it is the first time since 1931 that a caste-based enumeration will be included in the national census. The move is expected to provide a clearer understanding of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) population and enable the drafting of more equitable and targeted policies.

The inclusion of caste details in the census has been a subject of debate and political maneuvering. While the opposition has long advocated for a caste census to address social inequalities, the Modi government had initially expressed reservations, citing concerns about deepening social divisions. However, the government now appears to recognize the importance of gathering caste-based data for effective policy intervention and social justice. The decision has been hailed by NDA partners as a step that would help in drafting "equitable and targeted" policies.

Looking ahead, the NDA meeting will also address upcoming national milestones, including the first anniversary of the current NDA government, the 10-year celebration of International Yoga Day, and the 50th anniversary of the Emergency (Loktantra Hatya Diwas). These discussions will help align NDA states on key national events and reinforce the alliance's unified stance on governance, democracy, and national security.

The meeting is viewed as more than just an administrative exercise; it is a show of strength and unity, highlighting the NDA's commitment to good governance and decisive leadership. By bringing together top leaders from the central government and the states, the BJP aims to present a coordinated and performance-driven image to the public. The NDA conclave, led by Prime Minister Modi, signals a clear push towards governance excellence and political coordination, with significant implications for the alliance's narrative in the coming months.
