Sonali Bendre recently shared insights into her evolving relationship with Salman Khan, revealing that her initial impressions of the actor weren't particularly favorable. Their journey from mere colleagues to a bond strengthened by support and understanding offers a glimpse into the complexities of Bollywood relationships and the hidden depths of its stars.
During a recent interview, Sonali Bendre reflected on her time working with Salman Khan in the 1999 film Hum Saath Saath Hain. She admitted that, back then, they weren't exactly "best of friends." In fact, Salman's playful, often mischievous behavior on set frequently irritated her. She recounted instances where Salman would make faces during her close-up shots, much to her annoyance. As she put it, "We were fighting all the time." His habit of pranking her led to frequent quarrels, making it difficult for her to warm up to him. Sonali has openly said that she wasn't particularly fond of him during that period. She described him as a prankster, like a child.
However, as the years passed, Sonali began to see a different side of Salman. She recognized that beneath his sometimes rough exterior lay a genuinely kind and caring person. "Actually, he puts on a really rough exterior, but he's a softy," she explained. It took her a while to understand this contrast in his personality and to appreciate his true nature.
The turning point in their relationship came during Sonali's battle with cancer. In 2018, she was diagnosed with stage four metastatic cancer and had to undergo treatment in New York. It was during this challenging time that Salman's support shone through. Sonali revealed that Salman made two trips to New York to visit her and ensure she was doing okay. He also contacted her husband, Goldie Behl, to inquire about her medical care, offering suggestions and contacts for doctors.
Sonali was deeply touched by Salman's concern and support. She realized that he had taken on an elder-like role, ensuring she had the best possible care. "The same person who's making faces behind the camera is the same person who has made two trips maybe to New York where I'm there to see if I'm okay in my illness," she said. She added that this show of empathy and support was unexpected, considering her initial impressions of him.
Sonali has since expressed immense respect and gratitude for Salman's actions. She acknowledged that while she had her issues with him in the past, she has grown to appreciate his caring side. Their story is a testament to how relationships can evolve over time and how unexpected acts of kindness can change perceptions. It also highlights the importance of support and friendship in the face of adversity, showcasing a different side of Bollywood stars beyond the glitz and glamour. She emphasized how their bond has grown over the years and that Salman's presence was reassuring during her recovery.
Sonali's experience serves as a reminder that first impressions aren't always accurate, and people can surprise you with their true character when it matters most. It also underscores the importance of looking beyond the surface and recognizing the human qualities that connect us all.
