The honeymoon of an Indore couple in Meghalaya has turned into a shocking case of murder, deceit, and betrayal. Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of Raja Raghuvanshi, has been arrested in connection with her husband's murder. The arrest occurred in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after Sonam had been missing for several days, following the discovery of Raja's body in a gorge in Meghalaya.
According to reports, Sonam Raghuvanshi surrendered at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Her surrender marked a turning point in the investigation, as she confessed to plotting her husband's murder by hiring contract killers. Following her confession, police conducted overnight raids and arrested three men allegedly hired by Sonam to carry out the crime. Two of the men are from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and one is from Uttar Pradesh.
The police investigation revealed that Sonam was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with a man named Raj Kushwaha, which is believed to be the motive for plotting Raja's death. The honeymoon, which was supposed to be a celebration of love, was reportedly a well-planned ruse to execute the murder.
The events leading up to the arrest began on May 20, when Raja and Sonam arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon. They visited several tourist destinations, including Sohra (Cherrapunji) and Nongriat. On May 23, the couple went missing, raising concerns among their families and prompting a large-scale search operation. Initially, authorities treated the case as a missing persons investigation. However, the discovery of Raja's body on June 2 in a 200-foot gorge, along with a bloodstained machete nearby, indicated a more sinister scenario. Valuables were also missing from Raja's body.
After her arrest, Sonam claimed that she was kidnapped. According to a dhaba owner near Ghazipur, where Sonam was apprehended, she told him that she was a victim and had been abducted. However, police investigations and her confession point towards her involvement in the murder plot.
Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, acknowledged the swift work of the Meghalaya Police. A special investigation team was formed to probe the case, and operations are still underway to apprehend others involved. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh officials have urged the central government to order a CBI inquiry into the matter.
