In his address to the nation from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as it marked 100 years of service to the nation. He described the RSS's journey as "very proud and glorious," and saluted its volunteers for their dedication. Modi, who has been associated with the RSS in the past, acknowledged the organization's contribution to nation-building and character development.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the nation is built not only by the government but also by the collective efforts of its people, including various organizations. He specifically mentioned the RSS, recognizing its century-long commitment to "vyakti nirman" (character development) and "rashtra nirman" (nation-building) for the welfare of the motherland. He respectfully remembered all the swayamsevaks who have contributed to these 100 years of national service.
Modi referred to the RSS as the "world's biggest NGO," acknowledging its service, dedication, organization, and unparalleled discipline. Founded in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur, the RSS has a history of selfless service to the nation.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat marked Independence Day by hoisting the tricolor and emphasizing India's mission to bring peace and happiness to the world. He stated that India strives to share its Dharma globally and provide solutions to the world's problems, creating a new world filled with happiness and peace based on religious principles.
In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Modi also touched upon various other issues facing the nation. He warned of a conspiracy to change the country's demography through illegal infiltration and announced a high-powered demographic mission to tackle the problem. He also spoke about Mission Sudarshan Chakra, aimed at increasing safety and developing a more powerful weapons system.
Modi highlighted India's achievements in clean energy, stating that the country has achieved its target five years ahead of schedule. He also announced the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, promising financial assistance to those getting their first job in the private sector. Furthermore, he mentioned India's plans to launch the National Deep Water Exploration Mission to explore oil and gas reserves beneath the sea and its rapid progress in increasing nuclear energy capacity.
The Prime Minister expressed concern about obesity becoming a major challenge and urged everyone to contribute to the fight against it. He also stated that India would not compromise on the interests of its farmers, fishermen, and cattle rearers.
Addressing the gathering, Modi delivered his longest Independence Day speech, lasting 103 minutes.
