Kerala Police have successfully rescued VP Shameer, a UAE-based Indian businessman who was kidnapped while vacationing in his home state. The abduction, which occurred on Tuesday evening, involved a ransom plot of Rs 10.5 million. Following a swift investigation, police located Shameer in the Kollam district, approximately 300km from where he was abducted in Malappuram district.

Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping, including a former employee of Shameer's. The former employee, identified as Shamseer, reportedly orchestrated the abduction after being fired from his position, where he was involved in over 50 of Shameer's business ventures. Disgruntled by his termination, Shamseer had previously issued threats against the businessman. The other arrested individuals are Achikka alias Hamseer, Fayas alias Mustafa, Afzal, Muhammad Naif and Shaheer.

Reports indicate that Shameer, who runs a chain of pharmacy stores headquartered in Sharjah and operates several other businesses in the UAE, had returned to Kerala for a short 10-day visit. On Tuesday evening, while riding his motorcycle home after visiting a friend, Shameer was intercepted near Pandikkad in the Malappuram district. CCTV footage captured the moment when several men forced him into a waiting Toyota Innova before fleeing.

On Wednesday morning, Shameer's business partner in the UAE received a ransom call from Shameer's mobile phone. The abductors demanded Rs 10.5 million (Rs 1.5 crore) and also contacted Shameer's wife, warning her against involving the police. Despite the threats, the family filed a complaint, and Kerala Police launched an investigation. The police were able to trace Shameer to the Kollam district. They were reportedly attempting to move him to Tamil Nadu.

News of Shameer's safe rescue has prompted an outpouring of relief and support. Riyaz Kilton, Chairman of the International Promoters Association (IPA), a leading business network of Keralites in the UAE of which Shameer is a member, confirmed the rescue. Authorities are continuing to investigate the motive and possible connections behind the kidnapping. Shameer is undergoing medical checks following the incident, during which he was reportedly assaulted.
