Following the tragic Air India Flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday, actor Vikrant Massey has clarified the nature of his relationship with the late Clive Kunder, the flight's co-pilot. Initial reports had widely identified Kunder as Massey's cousin, a connection the actor has now addressed to offer a more accurate depiction of their bond.

In a statement released earlier today, Massey expressed his deep sorrow for the lives lost in the devastating accident, which claimed the lives of over 260 people. The flight, bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, sending shockwaves through the nation.

Massey initially took to his Instagram to share his grief, writing, "My heart breaks for the families & loved ones of the ones who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad today. It pains even more to know that my uncle, Clifford Kunder lost his son, Clive Kunder, who was the 1st officer operating on that fateful flight.”

However, addressing the widespread reports identifying Clive as his cousin, Massey clarified, "While the Kunder family is very close to my family, and I have always considered them as my own, using the term 'cousin' is technically inaccurate. Clifford Kunder, who tragically lost his son Clive, is a very dear family friend who we lovingly refer to as 'uncle'. Our families share a bond of many years, and this loss is deeply personal for all of us."

Massey emphasized the importance of accurately portraying the relationship amidst a tragedy that has affected so many. "In times of such immense grief, clarity is essential. The Kunder family is very much a part of our extended family, and their pain is our pain," he stated.

The Air India flight AI171 crash has prompted widespread mourning and condolences. According to reports, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, including passengers and crew, crashed minutes after takeoff. Among those on board were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian national. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also reported to be on the flight.

The crash site near Meghaninagar witnessed immediate rescue operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and offered condolences to the families of the deceased. The Tata Group, the parent company of Air India, has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of each victim.

Massey concluded his statement by requesting privacy for the Kunder family during this difficult time and reiterated his prayers for all those affected by the tragedy. He also expressed gratitude to those who have offered their support and condolences.
