Today marks 12 years since the release of "Fukrey," the 2013 comedy that became a sleeper hit and a cult favorite. Pulkit Samrat, who played the character Hunny, took to social media to celebrate the milestone and express his gratitude to the fans and the entire team behind the film.
In an Instagram post, Pulkit shared behind-the-scenes glimpses from the movie, featuring the cast and crew, including Manjot Singh, Varun Sharma, Ali Fazal, Priya Anand, Vishakha Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, and Richa Chadda. He captioned the video with a heartfelt message, "Warning: This Hunny comes with 12 years of sweet nostalgia. Proceed with FUKRAPANTI… Sending biggg love to my Fukrey fam – the cast, crew & all the jugaadu geniuses behind the madness… and a special shoutout to the audience for turning our crazy into something truly iconic! Thank you so much for all the love. #12YearsOfFukrey."
Pulkit's portrayal of Hunny, a street-smart Delhi boy known for his "jugaadu" (resourceful) nature, became a defining role in his career. The character resonated with the youth for his charm, confidence, and loyalty. The film, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and produced by Excel Entertainment, was praised for its quirky humor, memorable characters, and its authentic portrayal of Delhi life.
"Fukrey" tells the story of four friends from Delhi who come together to make easy money. Hunny uses his ability to decode dreams to predict lottery numbers, and along with his friends Choocha, Zafar, and Lali, they seek the help of a local gangster, Bholi Punjaban, to invest in their plan. The film follows their misadventures as their plans go awry, leading to hilarious and chaotic situations.
The success of "Fukrey" led to two sequels, "Fukrey Returns" in 2017 and "Fukrey 3" in 2023, with the original cast returning each time. The franchise has carved a loyal fan base and has become one of the few comedy series in Hindi cinema to maintain its popularity for over a decade.
Pulkit Samrat is now moving on to new projects. He will be seen in "Glory," a boxing drama, and "Suswagatam Khushamadeed," a cross-cultural romance. He is currently filming "Rahu Ketu" in Kasol, alongside his "Fukrey" co-star Varun Sharma and actress Shalini Pandey.
In addition to celebrating "Fukrey," Pulkit also congratulated his wife, Kriti Kharbanda, on completing 16 years in the entertainment industry. He shared a story on Instagram, writing, "Happy Sweet 16 Pretty Kharbanda! Forever so proud of your journey, your relentless attitude, your unfiltered dreams, and your capability to conquer them!! 16 years and counting.. Happy 16 seniors!" He also mentioned the premiere of "Rana Naidu 2" on Netflix, in which he stars.
