Sekhar Kammula's highly anticipated multilingual film, "Kuberaa," starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, has cleared the censor board after undergoing cuts to its runtime. The film received a U/A certificate, signaling its readiness for release on June 20, 2025. Initially, reports indicated a lengthy runtime of 195 minutes (3 hours and 15 minutes), which sparked discussions among fans and industry insiders, with many expressing concerns about audience engagement for such a long film, especially considering its release in multiple languages.
Responding to the feedback, the producers decided to trim the film by 14 minutes. The revised version, clocking in at 181 minutes (3 hours and 1 minute), has now been approved by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This move demonstrates the filmmakers' responsiveness to audience expectations and their commitment to balancing storytelling depth with a theater-friendly viewing experience. Even with the cuts, some fans remain concerned about the film's length, as three hours is still considered a lengthy runtime.
"Kuberaa" has been generating considerable buzz due to its intriguing plot and star-studded cast. The film is Dhanush's 51st project and marks his first collaboration with director Sekhar Kammula. The narrative explores themes of slum politics, the real estate mafia, and social justice. Dhanush plays a beggar, while Nagarjuna portrays a chartered accountant who enlists beggars to impersonate businessmen and launder black money from corrupt tycoons; however, his perfect scam unravels when one of them (Dhanush) turns the tables and launches his own game of betrayal and survival. Rashmika Mandanna plays the love interest of Dhanush's character.
The film is produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under the banners of Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations. The technical crew includes Devi Sri Prasad as the music composer, Niketh Bommi as the cinematographer, and Karthika Srinivas as the editor. The production design is by Ramakrishna Sabbani and Monika Nigotre, with costumes designed by Kavya Sriram and Poorvaa Jain.
The Tamil Nadu distribution rights for "Kuberaa" have been acquired by Romeo Pictures. Amazon Prime Video has secured the post-theatrical streaming rights, ensuring a wide digital reach for the film after its theatrical run. The film is set to release in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, with dubbed versions available in Malayalam and Kannada. The recently released trailer has further heightened anticipation for the film, showcasing its gripping storyline and impressive visuals. As the release date approaches, all eyes are on whether "Kuberaa" will live up to its potential and resonate with audiences.
