Neena Gupta recently shared an intriguing anecdote from the sets of her upcoming film, 'Metro... In Dino', directed by Anurag Basu. The actress, who is collaborating with Basu for the first time, recounted an incident where she was all set to give her shot but was unexpectedly asked to return to her van.
Speaking to news agency IANS, Gupta described Basu as a director who is highly instinctive and perceptive, constantly brimming with new ideas right up to the moment before the camera rolls. She narrated the incident, "Once we came on the set for shoot as the production team called us on the set." However, the crew then informed them, "We were told to go back in the van, and that it will take some time."
Intrigued, Gupta sought out Basu, affectionately called "Dada," and found him in a corner of the hall where the shoot was to take place, deep in thought. When she inquired about what was happening, she was told, "He wants to think." This highlights Basu's spontaneous and improvisational approach to filmmaking.
Gupta further elaborated on Basu's working style, emphasizing his ability to improvise on the spot. While actors were given their lines and had rehearsed them, Basu would often ask them to try something different, even after a couple of takes. Gupta shared an example, saying that Basu would suddenly suggest, "Neena, do it differently." She admitted that these sudden changes often led to brilliant ideas that she herself hadn't considered.
The actress expressed her admiration for Basu's creative process, stating, "And I was like, 'Oh man, this is a very good idea, why didn't I think of this?'." She revealed that working with Basu was a dream come true for her, so much so that when he offered her the film, she accepted without hesitation, saying, "I don't want to hear anything, I don't want to do anything, I'll just work with you." She described working with him as "great fun."
'Metro... In Dino' is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Anurag Basu, and Taani Basu, and is presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series in association with Anurag Basu Productions Pvt. Ltd.
