The prospect of an Andaz Apna Apna sequel has been a topic of fervent discussion and anticipation for decades. Now, Aamir Khan has provided a fresh update on the potential collaboration with Salman Khan, stating that director Rajkumar Santoshi is actively working on the script for Andaz Apna Apna 2. However, he tempered expectations by emphasizing that the project is still in its nascent stages and will only move forward if both he and Salman are completely satisfied with the final script.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Aamir stated, "I truly believe that scripts need to emerge organically. So Raj Santoshi is crafting a version of Andaz Apna Apna 2, but it's too soon for me to declare that it's being produced, because until the script is finalized and both Salman and I are enamored with what he presents and we give our approval — until then, the film actually won't be greenlit. So at this moment, it's in very early stages. But let's all wish that he develops a strong script. We're all hopeful."

This update comes after years of speculation and numerous reports about a possible sequel to the 1994 cult comedy. Andaz Apna Apna, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, initially underperformed at the box office but has since gained immense popularity and is now considered a classic. The film, starring Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Shakti Kapoor, is celebrated for its unique humor, memorable dialogues, and iconic characters Amar and Prem.

Aamir's recent confirmation has fueled excitement among fans who have long awaited the return of Amar and Prem. In March 2025, Aamir celebrated his 60th birthday with a gathering at his home, where he, Salman, and Rajkumar Santoshi reportedly discussed Andaz Apna Apna and the possibility of a sequel.

However, the path to Andaz Apna Apna 2 may not be entirely smooth. The children of the original film's producer, the late Vinay Kumar Sinha, have expressed reservations about handing over the rights to Aamir Khan or Rajkumar Santoshi. In an interview with Lehren Retro, they stated, "Aamir was never a producer (of the film), he was merely an actor. We will never sell the rights to him or Rajkumar Santoshi." They acknowledged that Rajkumar Santoshi had been discussing the sequel with their father for a long time, but it never materialized. They emphasized that any decision regarding the sequel's direction and production would rest with them.

Despite these potential hurdles, Aamir Khan remains optimistic about the project. He has expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Salman Khan once again and believes that the audience would love to see Andaz Apna Apna 2.

Rajkumar Santoshi himself has acknowledged the immense pressure to deliver a sequel that lives up to the original. He has stated that he would only make the film if the narrative feels right and respects the original's legacy. This suggests that the creators are taking their time to ensure that the sequel is not just a cash grab but a worthy successor to the beloved comedy.

As fans eagerly await further developments, the fate of Andaz Apna Apna 2 remains uncertain. Whether the original cast returns, or a fresh batch of performers are brought in, the sequel has the potential to recapture the magic of the original and introduce a new generation to the timeless comedy of Amar and Prem.
