The premiere of Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par on June 19, 2025, was a star-studded affair, drawing luminaries from across the Bollywood spectrum. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan were among the attendees, marking a rare occasion where the three Khans were seen together. The screening was held in Mumbai ahead of the film's official release on June 20, 2025.
Many other celebrities like Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Vicky Kaushal, Jeetendra, Tusshar Kapoor, Kriti Kharbanda, Sunny Kaushal, and Tiger Shroff were also present at the screening. The entire cast and crew of the film, including Aamir Khan, Genelia D'Souza, and director RS Prasanna, were all dressed in Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla designs.
Shah Rukh Khan's presence was particularly heartwarming. He had previously visited the set of Sitaare Zameen Par and interacted with the debutant actors, all of whom are neurodivergent. A video of SRK's visit showed him hugging Aamir and engaging with the young cast. The actor took the time to speak with each of the ten debut actors in the film and struck his signature arms-stretched pose for a group photo.
Salman Khan's arrival added another layer of excitement to the premiere. Known for his playful banter, Salman jokingly claimed that he was initially supposed to star in Sitaare Zameen Par before Aamir Khan decided to take on the project himself. He said that Aamir had called him to show the subject, and he liked it very much and said yes. Then he got a call that Aamir himself is doing the picture.
Sitaare Zameen Par marks Aamir Khan's return to the big screen after a three-year hiatus. The film is directed by R.S. Prasanna and stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in key roles. The film is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones.
The film introduces ten debutants: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. The movie is about a basketball coach who has to teach the game to specially-abled kids.
Early reviews of Sitaare Zameen Par are largely positive. Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia's husband, called the film "extraordinary" after an early viewing, appreciating the performances and noting the courage it took to make a film on such a sensitive subject. Sachin Tendulkar also shared his positive review of the film. Tendulkar said that the entire film and story make you laugh and cry with the entire team 'sitaare'.
However, one review noted a surprising lack of buzz around the film, suggesting that it might feel like a blend of Aamir Khan's previous films, such as Taare Zameen Par, Dangal, and Lagaan.
The film's makers have implemented a unique release strategy, setting guidelines for cinemas to keep ticket prices affordable. One important rule is that Sitaare Zameen Par's earliest show cannot begin before 9 am. According to reports, Aamir has declined blockbuster prices for Sitaare Zameen Par to keep the movie accessible to a wider audience.
Advance bookings for Sitaare Zameen Par have reportedly crossed Rs 1.6 crore. Early estimates suggest that the film may open between Rs 11 to Rs 15 crore on its first day.
