Karan Johar is showing his support for Shanaya Kapoor as she gears up for her Bollywood debut in "Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan." The film, directed by Santosh Singh, is scheduled to release on July 11, 2025, and anticipation is building.
"Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan" is an adaptation of Ruskin Bond's short story, "The Eyes Have It." Shanaya plays a theatre artist, while Vikrant Massey portrays a visually impaired musician. The film explores themes of love, deception, and surprise, promising a unique and emotionally stirring narrative.
Shanaya Kapoor shared an update on social media, announcing the wrap of the film's shooting schedule. The post included a behind-the-scenes video of fun moments with Vikrant Massey in Europe, where they filmed in scenic locations.
The screenplay is written by Niranjan Iyengar and Mansi Bagla, with production by Mansi and Varun Bagla's Mini Films, marking their second collaboration with Vikrant Massey after "Forensic." Vishal Mishra composed the music.
The first look of "Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan" has been released, showing Shanaya in a red outfit facing Vikrant, who has his eyes closed. This unconventional love story revolves around a connection that goes beyond sight. Shanaya's role as a blind character is a daring choice for her debut.
Originally, Shanaya was set to debut in Karan Johar's "Bedhadak," but the project was shelved. Besides "Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan," she is also reportedly part of Dharma Productions' web series, "Student of the Year 3," where she will play a double role.
Director Santosh Singh revealed that Tara Sutaria and Pratibha Ranta were considered for the role before Shanaya. She secured the part after auditions and four months of workshops with an acting coach.
Shanaya's performance in "Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan" remains to be seen. Some online users have expressed skepticism due to the nepotism debate surrounding star kids in Bollywood. Others are open to seeing what she can do.
