The highly anticipated first single, "Chikitu," from the Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie is set to release tomorrow, June 25th, at 6 PM. Sun Pictures, the production house behind the film, officially announced the release date, sending excitement soaring among fans.
A promotional video, already released, offers a glimpse into the vibrant energy of the track, featuring composer Anirudh Ravichander and choreographer Sandy Master. This sneak peek has further amplified the buzz surrounding the song, which is expected to be a high-energy dance number. Notably, a 59-second preview called "Chikitu Vibe" was previously released on Rajinikanth's 74th birthday on December 12, 2024, adding to the anticipation.
Reports suggest that Anirudh Ravichander will share screen space with Rajinikanth in the song, dancing alongside the superstar for approximately three minutes. The song is sung by T. Rajendar, adding a nostalgic touch. It marks T. Rajendar’s first-ever contribution to a Rajinikanth film.
Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, marks Rajinikanth's 171st film as a lead actor. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Junior MGR, Reba Monica John, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Cameo appearances by Pooja Hegde and Aamir Khan have also been confirmed.
The film's journey began in September 2023 with the tentative title 'Thalaivar 171', before being revealed as Coolie in April 2024. Filming took place across various locations, including Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Bangkok, concluding in mid-March 2025.
Coolie is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2025, in standard and IMAX formats. The film will also be released in Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.
Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music, Girish Gangadharan is handling cinematography, and Philomin Raj is in charge of editing. Lokesh Kanagaraj has stated that Coolie will not be part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
With "Chikitu" poised to drop the day after tomorrow, expectations are high for Anirudh Ravichander to deliver a hit track, especially considering the mixed reception to his recent work in other big-budget films. The success of "Chikitu" is crucial to maintain the momentum leading up to the film's release.
