A 19-year-old woman has died after allegedly being pushed from the rooftop of her home in the Ashok Nagar area of northeast Delhi. The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, was initially treated as an attempted murder, but the charges have been upgraded to murder following the victim's death. Police have identified and arrested the accused and multiple teams were involved in the investigation.
According to police sources, the victim and the accused were in a relationship. A heated argument reportedly broke out between them on Monday when the woman learned that the man was planning to marry someone else. Disguised in a burqa, the accused allegedly entered her fifth-floor home, posing as a friend, before pushing her off the balcony during the argument. The incident was reported to the Jyoti Nagar police station around 8:30 am on Monday.
The victim was immediately rushed to GTB Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Following her death, Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been added to the case.
News of the incident has sparked outrage in the local community. On Tuesday, a large crowd of locals and neighbors gathered outside the victim's residence to mourn her death and demand justice. While the situation was tense, a strong police presence helped maintain order. The victim's family is calling for the harshest possible punishment for the accused, including the death penalty, alleging that his actions were intentional and driven by malice.
"We want strict punishment. He should be hanged for what he has done to our daughter. We will not rest until he is behind bars and gets the death penalty," a relative of the victim stated.
The police have been actively investigating the case. Multiple teams were deployed to trace the accused, and CCTV footage from the area is being closely examined to reconstruct the timeline of events and track his movements before and after the crime. Police are also recording statements from the victim's family members, neighbors, and eyewitnesses to establish a comprehensive understanding of the incident.
