Nagendra Babu, the veteran Telugu actor and producer, has recently addressed his daughter Niharika Konidela's divorce from Chaitanya Jonnalagadda, marking the first time he has spoken so openly about the matter. Niharika, who comes from a prominent film family as the niece of Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan, married Chaitanya in 2020, but the couple announced their separation in 2023, after three years of marriage.
In a recent interview with Deccan Chronicle, Nagendra Babu reflected on the challenges Niharika faced in her personal life. He admitted that he considers the marriage a "misjudgment" on his and his family's part. While the proposal seemed suitable at the time and Niharika agreed to it, things ultimately did not work out due to the couple's inability to find common ground. "Her marriage was an error on our part; we failed to assess it correctly," Nagendra Babu stated. "We didn't impose the marriage; when the proposal arose, she accepted it, and we felt it was a favorable choice. Unfortunately, they were not on the same wavelength, leading to a mutual decision to separate. I never pressured them to remain together."
Nagendra Babu emphasized that he respects Niharika and Chaitanya's decision to part ways, as it was a mutual one based on their well-being. He prioritizes his children's happiness above all else, stating that material wealth is meaningless if they are not content. He does not interfere in his children's careers and values their happiness above box office success.
He also shared insights into his son Varun Tej's marriage to actress Lavanya Tripathi. Before giving his blessing, Nagendra Babu asked Varun if he was certain about his happiness and future with Lavanya. Varun's confidence and assurance in their relationship gave Nagendra Babu the peace of mind to support his decision. He expressed his happiness in seeing Varun and Lavanya leading a peaceful and joyful life together.
Addressing the possibility of Niharika remarrying, Nagendra Babu mentioned that she is currently focused on her film production career. Niharika made her debut as a producer with the 2024 rural drama 'Committee Kurrollu'. However, he added that she may consider settling down again in the future if the right person comes along.
Niharika herself addressed the divorce in a 2024 podcast with Nikhil Vijayendra Simha. She expressed gratitude for having a supportive father who prioritizes her happiness above public opinion. She also shared that the divorce has taught her the value of family and that she is now focused on being independent and working on herself before considering another relationship.
The divorce of Niharika Konidela and Chaitanya Jonnalagadda was a significant topic of discussion in the Telugu film industry and among fans. With Nagendra Babu's recent statements, some clarity has been provided regarding the family's perspective on the matter, emphasizing their support for Niharika's happiness and well-being above all else.
