Reports surfaced recently that Deepak Kumar Mishra had been ousted from Sidharth Malhotra's upcoming film, Vvan, due to creative differences. However, Mishra has refuted these claims, stating that his collaboration with Malhotra remains strong.
According to initial reports, the disagreements between Mishra and Malhotra revolved around key creative aspects of the film's vision. These differences reportedly escalated during pre-production discussions, creating a tense working environment. Some sources claimed that these unresolved issues led TVF, the film's production company, to remove Mishra from his directorial role. Following this alleged ousting, rumors circulated that an award-winning editor, who recently made his directorial debut, might step in to helm the project.
However, Deepak Kumar Mishra has addressed these rumors, dismissing them as completely false. In an exclusive statement to Mumbai Mirror, Mishra stated, "I don't have any such information. Nothing has happened. This is out of the blue. I just want to state that nothing has happened. Sidharth and I are very strong. We are jamming so well and working hard on the film. It is 100% false".
Vvan is a joint production between TVF and Balaji Motion Pictures. The film is reportedly a folk thriller set in the mythical heartlands of central India and will be shot in real forest locations to enhance its authenticity. The film was initially slated to begin shooting earlier this year but faced delays due to Malhotra's schedule and the exit of Sara Ali Khan, who was originally cast as the female lead. Tamannaah Bhatia was later announced as her replacement. The film's release date has been shifted from Chhath Puja 2025 to March 15, 2026.
Deepak Kumar Mishra is a well-known figure at The Viral Fever (TVF), having directed several acclaimed digital hits such as Permanent Roommates, Barely Speaking with Arnub, Humorously Yours, and the award-winning series Panchayat.
While initial reports suggested a clash of visions and an uncomfortable working environment, Mishra's denial indicates that he remains on board and is actively collaborating with Sidharth Malhotra on Vvan. Malhotra's team has yet to respond to the initial reports.
