In recent news from the region, an individual from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was taken into custody near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The individual, identified as Mohammad Yaqoob, a resident of Suhana Kotli in PoK, was apprehended by alert troops after he crossed the LoC into the Keri sector.
According to officials, Yaqoob was found to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest. Authorities have taken him into custody for questioning, though initial reports indicate that no incriminating materials were found in his possession. Investigations are currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his attempted crossing.
This is not an isolated incident, as similar events have occurred in the past. In February 2025, another PoK resident, Abdul Rehman, was apprehended near the LoC in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri. Rehman, a resident of Seri village of Kotli district, was also reportedly under the influence of drugs when he was intercepted.
In May 2023, Mohammad Usman, a 30-year-old from Karela village of Kotli in PoK, was detained after crossing the LoC in Rajouri district. Usman was later handed over to Pakistani army personnel at the Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch. Prior to Usman's apprehension, in April 2023, Indian troops had detained a father-son duo from PoK who had inadvertently crossed into this side in the Poonch district; they were subsequently repatriated.
These incidents highlight the persistent issue of individuals crossing the LoC, whether intentionally or inadvertently. The reasons behind these crossings can vary, ranging from unintentional border crossings by civilians to more serious instances of infiltration attempts. The response from the Indian Army and other security forces is to maintain vigilance along the LoC and to conduct thorough investigations to ascertain the motives of those apprehended.
