Khushi Mukherjee, an Indian actress and model, is facing criticism for her bold fashion choices. Recently, she was photographed in Mumbai wearing a revealing black outfit, which some online users and celebrities deemed "indecent". This sparked a wave of backlash on social media, with some even demanding action against her for "inappropriate public behaviour". Some paparazzi also expressed frustration, claiming they were unfairly targeted because of her fashion choices.

In response to the criticism, Mukherjee posted a video on Instagram on Monday, July 1, 2025, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, a sacred Hindu hymn. She seemingly intended to address her detractors and assert her connection to her cultural roots. In her post, she wrote, "Just because I wear bold clothes doesn't mean I have forgotten my cultural background. I am a proud Bengali Brahmin". She also anticipated further trolling from "so-called influencers/actors" but stated the video was for her supporters.

In the video, Mukherjee said, "Hello everyone, this is Khushi. I know some people might still troll me or say hurtful things, but I want to make it clear that I am aware of my cultural roots. I was born and raised in a Bengali Brahmin family, and I do have some knowledge of our traditions. So, today, I would like to recite the Hanuman Chalisa". After reciting the hymn, she added, "By doing this, I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone. I know people will still say bad things about me and troll me. I just want to say that wearing bold clothes doesn't mean I've forgotten Indian culture".

The video has sparked further debate online. Some are applauding her for standing her ground, while others accuse her of using religion for damage control.

Mukherjee has responded to the criticism of her outfits, asserting that she is inspired by Hollywood actresses like Jennifer Lopez, Irina Shayk, and Paris Hilton. She stated she is "not apologetic for wearing what I like… I live in a democratic country, not ruled by the Taliban. Wear what you like. Do what you want!".

Mukherjee's career includes work in South Indian films, reality shows, and web series. She began her acting career with the Tamil film Anjal Thurai in 2013 and later appeared in Telugu films and the Hindi film Shringaar. She gained further recognition through Indian television and reality shows.
