The recently released film Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan and Genelia D'Souza, is garnering attention, including a positive review from actor Aly Goni. The film, directed by R. S. Prasanna, is considered a spiritual successor to Khan's 2007 film, Taare Zameen Par.

Sitaare Zameen Par is a remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions. The movie tells the story of Gulshan Arora (Aamir Khan), a basketball coach with a temper who is suspended and faces legal trouble for drunk driving. Instead of jail, he is sentenced to community service, which involves coaching a basketball team of players with intellectual disabilities for a national tournament. As he trains the team, he undergoes a personal transformation, learning valuable lessons about life. The film sensitively portrays the traits of individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) like Down Syndrome and invisible autism.

The cast includes Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, GopiKrishnan K Verma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai, and Naman Misra, who bring energy and authenticity to their roles. Dolly Ahluwalia Tewari, Bijendra Kala, and Gurpal Singh offer solid support. Genelia D’Souza plays Sunita Arora, Gulshan’s wife.

Sitaare Zameen Par emphasizes inclusivity, showing that people with intellectual disabilities are employable, independent, empathetic, and full of life. The film balances delivering a message and educating viewers about intellectual disabilities with a lighthearted approach. The movie avoids overly preachy tones, mixing sentiment with spunk.

Although the film addresses a sensitive subject, it maintains a feel-good tone. However, some critics note that the film opts for easy sentimentality rather than delving into deeper emotional complexities. Certain scenes are designed to push emotional buttons, but the emotional payoff is not as impactful as expected.

Aamir Khan's performance as Gulshan is described as ditching the "halo" and embracing humility, allowing the neurodivergent team to shine. The film explores themes of love, compassion, and what it is like to live in the modern world with a disability.

The movie has grossed over Rs. 75 crore within five days of its release. Despite a somewhat subdued opening, with advance bookings of Rs 6.88 crore, it is expected to gain momentum through positive word-of-mouth.

Sitaare Zameen Par conveys a message of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The film is a family watch that blends comedy, compassion, and charm.
