These projects include the development of the Thilamale' Bridge and the Hanimaadhoo International Airport. Furthermore, India has extended a USD 25.94 million currency swap facility to bolster the Maldives' economy.
In an effort to attract Indian investment, business forums have been organized in three Indian cities to showcase opportunities in the Maldives. These forums aim to promote various sectors within the Maldives and foster direct engagement with Indian investors.
The relationship between India and the Maldives experienced some strain after President Mohamed Muizzu assumed office in November 2023. However, Muizzu has since vowed to strengthen bilateral ties with India, particularly during his visit to Delhi in October 2024.

Both countries recently signed an agreement to cooperate in digital technology. In August 2024, an agreement was signed to adopt UPI in the Maldives. Furthermore, in October 2024, the Government of India offered a USD 400 million currency swap facility.
Since 1988, defense and security have been a major area of cooperation between India and the Maldives. India provides numerous training opportunities for the Maldivian National Defence Force (MNDF), meeting a significant portion of their defense training requirements.
