Anupam Kher experienced an emotional moment as his directorial venture, "Tanvi The Great," received a standing ovation from over 2,500 cadets and officers at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Pune. The screening marked the first time the film was shown in India.
Kher, who returns to directing after more than two decades since his debut with "Om Jai Jagadish" in 2002, was accompanied by Boman Irani and debutante Shubhangi Dutt, who plays the lead role of Tanvi Raina. Tanvi Raina is a young woman with autism who dreams of joining the Indian Army. The film is scheduled to be released on July 18.
Overwhelmed by the response, Kher shared a video of the event on Instagram, describing it as the "most memorable moment" of his 40-year career. He expressed that the standing ovation made all the hardships, heartbreaks, tough times, disappointments, and difficulties faced during the film's creation at Anupam Kher Studio "totally worth it".
According to Kher, Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Commandant of the NDA, encouraged the cadets to react to the movie as they wished. The entire Habibullah Auditorium erupted in thunderous applause, which Kher felt lasted an eternity. He was moved to tears of joy and gratitude by the cadets' reaction.
Kher acknowledged his uncertainty about the film's future but cherished the present moment, describing it as the "brightest sunshine". He considered the standing ovation from the armed forces personnel a "blockbuster moment" for the entire team. He thanked Admiral Singh, the officers, their families, and the young cadets for "giving wings" to their film.
"Tanvi The Great" features Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, and Pallavi Joshi. The film's release on July 18 will see it competing at the box office with Sonakshi Sinha and Paresh Rawal's "Nikita Roy".
