Ali Fazal has recently spoken out about the issue of nepotism in Bollywood, suggesting that while it exists, there are "bigger problems" within the industry. He emphasized the challenges faced by those who aren't part of established cliques and the importance of fair compensation for writers.

Fazal isn't the first to address the topic of nepotism in Bollywood. The debate about whether it truly hinders outside talent has been ongoing for years. Some argue that it creates an uneven playing field, while others maintain that talent and hard work can overcome these barriers. Several actors, including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Fazal himself, have achieved success without family connections, demonstrating that it's possible to break through.

However, Fazal's comments seem to go beyond the typical nepotism discussion. He alludes to the existence of "groups" within Bollywood, implying that being accepted into these circles is crucial for advancement. This suggests a more complex dynamic than simply having famous parents. It speaks to a system where social connections and alliances can significantly impact career trajectories.

The actor has also voiced his concern for writers in the industry, stating that many struggle to make ends meet. He expressed his desire to "change the game" by ensuring writers are paid fairly and receive a share of the profits from films they contribute to. He believes that writers should not be left "sitting and waiting for pickings and still not being able to pay rent".

In comparing Bollywood to Hollywood, Fazal has noted differences in work culture, particularly regarding punctuality and the structured organization of departments. He appreciates the professionalism he has experienced in Hollywood, where schedules are strictly followed and everyone is expected to be on time and prepared. While acknowledging that he himself has sometimes been late on set in India, he recognizes the value of the disciplined approach he observed internationally.

Beyond his views on the industry, Fazal has been actively involved in various projects, showcasing his versatility as an actor and producer. He has starred in both Bollywood and Hollywood productions, as well as web series, and is now producing films with his wife, Richa Chadha. He has expressed a desire to experiment more as an actor while also working to bring audiences back to theaters.
