Nat Sciver-Brunt: England Women's Captain Set for Comeback in India ODI Series Post-Injury

England's women's cricket team is set to receive a significant boost with the return of their captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, for the upcoming Metro Bank ODI series against India. Sciver-Brunt had been sidelined with a groin injury sustained during the second T20I against the same opponents, forcing her to miss the remainder of the T20I series.

The return of Sciver-Brunt will see her lead a strong 15-member squad in the 50-over format clashes, scheduled to be held at the Utilita Bowl, Lord's, and Chester-le-Street. Her presence not only strengthens the team's batting and bowling prowess but also provides invaluable leadership on the field. Tammy Beaumont, who stepped in as captain for the remainder of the T20I series, will now resume her role within the squad.

Adding to the positive news for England is the potential return of Maia Bouchier, who could make her first appearance for the national side since the Ashes series in January. Bouchier's inclusion in the batting ranks comes after a century against India for an England Development XI in late June, showcasing her good form. Her return marks a comeback since Charlotte Edwards took over as head coach. However, Sarah Glenn and Mahika Gaur will miss out after being picked for the one-day games against the West Indies in May.

Another significant return to the ODI squad is that of Sophie Ecclestone, the top-ranked Women's ODI bowler. Ecclestone had been absent from the West Indies series in May-June due to a knee injury but has since made a successful comeback to international cricket, participating in all three T20Is against India. Her inclusion will bolster England's bowling attack, providing crucial control and wicket-taking ability.

Reflecting on the team's performance and the challenges posed by India, head coach Charlotte Edwards acknowledged the need for continued improvement. Speaking ahead of the fourth T20I at Old Trafford, Edwards stated that India has really pushed them during the Vitality IT20 series and that they have learned a lot about the team in the three games so far. She added that while there have been good moments, England is a team in transition and needs to keep working hard to perform consistently and for longer periods.

Edwards also emphasized the importance of the ODI series as preparation for the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup in India this autumn, while also asserting the team's determination to win the series.
