During his recent visit to Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the alignment between India and Brazil in their united stance against global terrorism, advocating for "zero tolerance and zero double standards". This declaration came during a joint press statement with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, following delegation-level talks aimed at strengthening the multifaceted ties between the two nations.

Modi's strong words subtly targeted countries that support or harbor terrorists, a veiled reference to Pakistan and its ally China, without explicitly naming them. He stressed that there should be no distinction between victims and perpetrators of terrorism, advocating for decisive action against those who fund, promote, or protect terrorists.

The Prime Minister also thanked President Lula for Brazil's support following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, which he described as an attack on the soul, identity, and dignity of India, and indeed on all of humanity. He reiterated that condemnation of terrorism should be a principle, not a mere convenience.

The discussions between the two leaders encompassed a wide array of topics, including trade and investment, defense and security, health and pharmaceuticals, space, renewable energy, food and energy security, infrastructure development, digital public infrastructure, culture, and people-to-people ties. Both countries are also exploring opportunities for collaboration in new-age sectors such as critical minerals, AI, supercomputers, and digital collaboration. They have set an ambitious bilateral trade target of USD 20 billion over the next five years.

Furthermore, Modi and Lula concurred on the resolution of global disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi conveyed India's commitment to peace and highlighted the important role of BRICS in fostering a secure global environment. He stressed that war and violence have no place in the modern world, and that development is only possible in an environment of peace.

Modi's visit to Brazil underscores India's proactive role in combating terrorism and fostering international cooperation for global peace and security. His clear message against double standards serves as a call to the international community to unite against terrorism as a matter of principle, rather than political convenience.
