Amidst swirling rumors of a potential split between Bollywood veteran Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, their son, Yashvardhan, was recently spotted performing a pooja. The timing of this religious ceremony has inevitably fueled further speculation regarding the state of his parents' marriage.
The rumors gained traction recently, with reports suggesting that the couple, who have been married for 37 years, were on the verge of separation due to irreconcilable differences and lifestyle mismatches. Adding to the speculation were whispers about Govinda's alleged closeness to a younger Marathi actress.
However, just as the rumors reached fever pitch, Govinda's lawyer, Lalit Bindal, stepped forward to address the situation. In an interview, Bindal revealed that Sunita had indeed filed for divorce approximately six months prior. However, he clarified that the couple had since resolved their issues and were back together. Bindal emphasized that "things are fine now" and that such conflicts are common in marriages. He also mentioned that the couple had traveled to Nepal for the New Year and performed puja together at Pashupatinath Mandir.
Govinda himself addressed the rumors, dismissing them as mere "business talks". He stated that he is currently focused on launching his film projects.
Adding another layer to the narrative, Sunita Ahuja has also spoken out to quell the rumors and clarify their living arrangements. She stated that no one can separate her and Govinda. She explained that their occasional separation stems from when Govinda entered politics, during which many party workers would visit their home while their daughter was growing up. To maintain privacy, they acquired an office space nearby.
Sunita also addressed comments she made in podcasts, which were perceived negatively. Bindal clarified that her statements were misinterpreted and taken out of context. For instance, when she said she didn't want Govinda as her husband in her next life, she also added that she wanted a son like him. Similarly, her remark about Govinda being with his "own Valentine" simply meant he was working.
Despite the clarifications, the rumors persist, fueled by Sunita's earlier statements about their separate living arrangements. She had mentioned that Govinda often stays at his bungalow after late meetings, while she resides in their flat with their children. She also indicated that they live separately since he often spends nights at his bungalow after late meetings and gatherings. She explained, "We have two houses, we have a bungalow opposite our apartment... We live in the flat whereas he gets late after his meetings. He loves talking so he'll gather 10 people and sit chatting with them".
The performance of a pooja by their son, Yashvardhan, comes at a sensitive time, given the history of divorce filings and the couple's unusual living arrangements. While the exact reasons for the pooja remain unknown, it has inevitably captured public attention, prompting further speculation about the family's dynamics. Despite the challenges and rumors, Govinda and Sunita, according to their lawyer, remain committed to their marriage.
