The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at three locations within the Union Territory on Friday, July 11, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation into terror funding through cryptocurrency. The searches were carried out in Jammu, Doda, and Handwara.
According to a police spokesperson, the raids aimed to gather critical evidence to unravel a conspiracy involving cross-border funding through cryptocurrency, which is allegedly being used to fuel terrorism and destabilize peace in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation also focused on identifying individuals inciting youth against the Union of India and threatening national security.
The searches are part of an ongoing investigation under FIR No. 12/2022, registered under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The specific sections of the UAPA include Sections 18, 38, and 39, along with Sections 120B, 121, and 121A of the IPC.
Officials stated that the raids yielded "vital evidence," including electronic devices, bank documents, and other incriminating materials. These items are expected to aid the SIA in identifying and apprehending co-conspirators and accomplices involved in the clandestine financial network. The agency is analyzing the recovered items to trace additional operatives and prevent the use of cryptocurrency-based funding, which has emerged as a growing mode of fueling violence and radicalization.
The SIA emphasized that the seized evidence marks a significant breakthrough in exposing the clandestine financial networks that keep terrorism active in Jammu and Kashmir. The spokesperson added that the SIA remains committed to dismantling the infrastructure that sustains terrorism in the region.
In a separate action, the J&K police attached bank credits amounting to ₹18,93,426, identified as proceeds of terrorism, in connection with FIR No. 105/2024 registered at Police Station Sopore. This case is being investigated under various sections of the UAPA and the Arms Act. The attachment was carried out following due approval from the competent authority under the UAPA. This action marks a crucial move in the ongoing crackdown against terror financing networks and logistical support systems aiding terrorist organizations and their affiliates.
The SIA reiterated its commitment to rooting out terrorism and its support systems, including sophisticated financial channels like cryptocurrency-based funding, which are increasingly exploited to perpetuate violence and radicalization.
