After a long period of public silence, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has finally opened up about his divorce from Dhanashree Verma, addressing speculation and providing insights into the reasons behind their separation. The couple, who married in 2020, officially ended their five-year marriage earlier this year.
Chahal revealed that the decision to separate was not sudden but rather a gradual process. Cracks in their relationship began to surface around the third year of marriage. Despite the internal struggles, they consciously maintained a public image of being a happy couple. This was partly out of hope that things might improve and partly to avoid public speculation until they reached a final decision. Chahal admitted that they were "faking it" towards the end, acknowledging that they were keeping up appearances.
One of the primary reasons for the breakdown of their marriage was the demanding nature of their respective careers. Chahal's commitments to national-level cricket and Verma's busy schedule as a choreographer, dancer, and content creator left them with little quality time together. The cricketer described marriage as a compromise, emphasizing that the inability to spend adequate time together contributed significantly to the growing distance between them. He noted that while compromise is essential, mismatched personalities and differences can create friction, ultimately leading to conflict.
Chahal also addressed the emotional toll the divorce took on him. He confessed to experiencing depression and even suicidal thoughts. The public scrutiny and allegations of infidelity further compounded his distress. Chahal firmly denied these allegations, asserting that loyalty is integral to his character. He revealed that he took a break from cricket to prioritize his mental health, recognizing that he needed to step away to regain his happiness and mental clarity.
The divorce was legally finalized in May 2025, with Verma reportedly receiving a settlement of ₹4.75 crore as alimony. Chahal has emphasized the importance of healing and support during this challenging period. He has also spoken about the lessons he has learned and the need for privacy and respect during such personal matters.
Following Chahal's revelations, Dhanashree Verma shared a post on Instagram reflecting on her recent trip to Dubai. She expressed gratitude for her experiences and the growth she has undergone.
