The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government to provide a two-month notice period to the staff of Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics (AAMC) before terminating their services. This order comes in response to a petition filed by AAMC staff members seeking protection against potential termination. The directive ensures that these employees receive adequate notice if their services are discontinued before March 31, 2026.
The court's intervention addresses concerns surrounding the future of Mohalla Clinics as the Delhi government plans to integrate them into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. This transition has raised anxieties among the existing staff regarding their job security. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) previously alleged that the government was planning to shut down most Mohalla Clinics to pave the way for Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, stating that the clinics and their staff would be removed once the Arogya Mandirs were established.
In May 2025, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attempted to allay these fears by assuring Mohalla Clinic staff that they would not lose their jobs and would be prioritized in the new healthcare framework. Gupta emphasized that the transition to Ayushman Arogya Mandirs was aimed at enhancing infrastructure, improving service delivery, and expanding access to medicines and diagnostics, while ensuring continued employment for existing workers.
However, these assurances did not fully quell the concerns of the AAMC staff, leading to the petition in the Delhi High Court. The court's recent order mandating a two-month notice period provides a measure of security for these employees during this period of transition.
The Delhi government's plan to integrate Mohalla Clinics into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs is part of a broader effort to revamp the primary healthcare system in the capital. Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are intended to provide integrated primary healthcare services to citizens, with a focus on enhanced infrastructure and service delivery. The government has stated that the existing Mohalla Clinic staff will be given priority in the new system, and that there will be a transparent process for hiring doctors and other healthcare workers.
