A portion of the Mahipalpur–Mehrauli Road in Vasant Kunj has caved in due to the collapse of a wall at a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) underground construction site. The incident occurred near block D-6, under the Masoodpur Flyover. The affected area of the road, specifically the stretch from Fortis Hospital towards Mahipalpur, is now unsafe for vehicles.
Authorities have issued a traffic advisory, urging commuters to avoid the collapsed section of the road. Travelers moving from Mehrauli towards Mahipalpur are advised to take an alternate route via Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, starting from Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, to reach Mahipalpur safely. Traffic police personnel have been deployed to manage and direct traffic efficiently and commuters are requested to follow their instructions to ensure smooth movement and avoid congestion.
The cave-in is expected to cause delays and traffic congestion in the surrounding area. Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly, allow extra travel time, and consider using public transportation if possible. The advisory aims to keep the public informed and ensure safety while repair and reconstruction work is underway.
This is not the first time that construction work has caused traffic issues in the Vasant Kunj area. Just last month, severe traffic congestion was reported due to ongoing Delhi Metro construction and a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) project near Sector D6. Residents complained of hours-long traffic jams, with school buses getting stuck in muddy areas.
Earlier incidents involving wall collapses in Vasant Kunj have also been reported. In June 2024, a wall collapsed due to heavy rains in the area, although no injuries were reported. In another incident in Vasant Vihar in June 2024, an under-construction wall collapsed, possibly trapping construction workers. The bodies of three laborers were later recovered from the rubble. Additionally, in July 2025, rescue operations were carried out in Vasant Kunj after a minor boy fell into an open sewer.
The DMRC has stated that its construction is away from the main carriageway and that traffic marshals are deployed at major intersections to maintain traffic flow. The DJB has yet to respond to the traffic concerns. Residents are demanding swift completion of the works and better coordination between agencies to prevent further chaos in the area.
