An encounter between security forces and terrorists has erupted in the Dool area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. The gunfight began early Sunday morning after security forces launched a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants.
The Army's White Knight Corps confirmed the ongoing operation, stating that contact was established with terrorists during an intelligence-based search. An exchange of gunfire ensued, and efforts are underway to neutralize the militants. Official sources suggest that three to four terrorists are believed to be trapped at the encounter site.
Kishtwar, located in the Jammu Division, is a hilly region with a mountain range connecting it to South Kashmir. The challenging terrain can complicate search and combat operations. On July 3, 2025, a similar encounter occurred in the Kanzal Mandu area of the Kuchal-Chatroo belt, where terrorists managed to escape.
In a separate incident in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, a suspect was apprehended using a facial recognition system. The individual, identified as Sheikh, was found to be involved in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act. Authorities lauded the effectiveness of the facial recognition system in strengthening security and maintaining law and order.
The ongoing operation in Kishtwar highlights the persistent efforts of security forces to counter terrorism in the region. The army has been carrying out an intelligence-based operation. Northern Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviewed the security situation and counter-terrorism measures in South Kashmir. The operation has entered its eighth day, with intermittent exchanges of fire. Drones and helicopters are being used to track down terrorists in the difficult terrain, with Para commandos assisting.
