A Bhopal-based dermatologist, Dr. Abhinit Gupta, has allegedly been defrauded of ₹10 lakh by a man who promised him a backdoor entry into the popular reality television show Bigg Boss. The incident, which occurred in 2022, involves a person identified as Karan Singh, who claimed to be an event director with strong connections in the television industry.
According to police reports, Karan Singh approached Dr. Gupta, who runs the Poison Skin Clinic in Bhopal, and offered to secure his entry into Bigg Boss through unofficial channels. Knowing the doctor's aspirations, a deal was struck for ₹50 lakh, with ₹10 lakh paid upfront as an advance. Trusting Karan's assurances, Dr. Gupta paid him ₹10 lakh. Karan Singh, who presented himself as an influential event director and industry insider, told Dr. Gupta that he could arrange a backdoor entry into the Bigg Boss show. He claimed to have strong ties to TV industry insiders and therefore promised an entry on Bigg Boss in return for Rs 10 lakh.
However, when the official contestant list for Bigg Boss was released, Dr. Gupta's name was not on it, raising his suspicions. Upon questioning Karan, Dr. Gupta was assured that the entry would still happen through a "backdoor process". As time passed and no progress was made, Dr. Gupta began demanding a refund. In 2022, Dr. Abhineet Gupta received a call from Karan Singh, who claimed to be an event director with extensive contacts in various production houses. He told Dr. Gupta that he could arrange a backdoor entry into the Bigg Boss show. A deal of ₹50 lakh was agreed upon, with Dr. Gupta paying ₹10 lakh upfront.
Karan Singh allegedly started avoiding calls and eventually switched off his phone. Realizing he had been duped, Dr. Gupta approached the Chunabhatti police in July 2023 and filed a complaint. The police have registered an FIR against Karan Singh under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with cheating. Police reported that in 2022, Dr. Abhineet Gupta received a call from a man named Karan Singh. Singh claimed to be an event director with extensive contacts in various production houses. He told Dr. Gupta that he could arrange a backdoor entry into the Bigg Boss show.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter and are currently trying to locate Karan Singh, who is reportedly at large. Investigation officer SI Uday Sisode said that Dr Abhineet Gupta, the complainant who runs his own clinic in Chunabhatti, came in contact with the accused, Karan Singh, through a mutual friend in 2022. Karan, who operates an event organising and management business in Mumbai, claimed to have strong connections in the television industry. He assured Dr Gupta that he could get him an entry into a high-profile reality TV game show, hosted by a Bollywood actor. Karan even took him to an office where officials explained the formal application process for the show. However, Karan demanded Rs 10 lakh in advance to "facilitate" the selection process.
