Actor Kay Kay Menon has publicly denied any involvement in the Congress party's "Vote Chori" (vote theft) campaign after a video featuring him was shared by the party on social media. Menon stated that the Congress party misused a clip from his Special Ops promotions without his permission.
The Congress party recently launched the “Vote Chori” campaign to demand accountability from the Election Commission and advocate for digital voter rolls. The campaign alleges large-scale manipulation in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, particularly in Karnataka's Bangalore Central constituency, through fake voter entries, duplicate names, and invalid addresses. The party released a promotional video on Instagram featuring Menon, which was captioned: “Himmat Singh is saying something, go and do it quickly! Stop it," followed by instructions to join the campaign. Himmat Singh is the name of the intelligence officer character portrayed by Kay Kay Menon in Special Ops.
Menon clarified his position on Monday, stating, "Please let it be noted that I have not acted in this ad". He emphasized that the clip used by the Congress party was taken from his Special Ops promotions and used without his consent.
The Election Commission has rejected the allegations of voter fraud as “false and misleading” and has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to provide a signed declaration with supporting evidence or issue a public apology. The BJP has described the campaign as a political stunt. The Karnataka Election Commission has also requested Rahul Gandhi to submit a formal declaration supporting his "vote chori" claim, along with the names of electors allegedly wrongfully included in the voter list, in order to initiate necessary proceedings. The commission stated that election results can only be challenged through an election petition before the High Court.
Rahul Gandhi responded to the Election Commission by stating that the data being displayed is their data and that the Election Commission has not denied the information. He questioned the fairness of the recent elections, accusing the Election Commission of acting in favor of the BJP and colluding with the BJP to steal the elections.
