The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially approved India's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This endorsement came during a Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Wednesday. With this formal approval, India is now set to move forward with its proposal to Commonwealth Sport.
Ahmedabad has been proposed as the host city for the 2030 CWG. India had already submitted an Expression of Interest with Ahmedabad as the proposed venue. The entire funding for the Commonwealth Games 2030 will be provided by the government.
The deadline for submitting the final bid documents is August 31, 2025. The IOA's decision gives a boost to the country's hopes of securing the multi-sport event.
Recently, a team of officials from Commonwealth Sport, headed by Director of Games Darren Hall, visited Ahmedabad to assess the venues and meet with officials from the Gujarat government.
With Canada withdrawing from the race to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, India's chances of securing the event have increased.
The other items discussed during the SGM included: * Consideration and passing of the audited statement of accounts for the financial year 2023-24. * Appointment of a statutory auditor for the financial year 2024-25.
