Superstar Rajinikanth is facing criticism for comments made about his "Coolie" co-stars, Soubin Shahir and Aamir Khan, during the film's audio launch in Chennai on August 2. The remarks, made during a 40-minute speech, have been perceived by many as body-shaming.

Rajinikanth admitted that he was initially uncertain about casting Soubin Shahir. He confessed to asking director Lokesh Kanagaraj about Soubin's credentials, "Who is Soubin? Which films has he acted in?". Rajinikanth then stated that he "still had doubts and even questioned whether he would suit the role because he was bald". Despite these reservations, he remained silent because of Lokesh's confidence in Soubin. Rajinikanth later praised Soubin's performance after viewing the scenes, exclaiming, "What an actor! Hats off!".

The superstar also commented on Aamir Khan, who makes a cameo appearance in "Coolie". Rajinikanth expressed surprise that Aamir Khan agreed to the role so quickly, saying he thought that Aamir would take years to approve a script. He then added, "He stands tall among them all despite being short. What a legend! My salute to you, sir".

The remarks have ignited a debate on social media. Some users found Rajinikanth's comments to be inappropriate and insensitive. Critics argue that such comments normalize body shaming. One user questioned, "Imagine if words like these have came from someone like Chiranjeevi or Balayya or Mohanlal or Bachan, would these people have left them without questioning?". Others have defended Rajinikanth, arguing that his comments were light-hearted and not intended to offend. Supporters emphasize that the actor praised both Soubin Shahir and Aamir Khan following his initial remarks. Some fans believe that there is no need to overreact, as "Thalaiva has always been open and honest".

Despite the controversy, "Coolie" is still expected to be a major release. Some reports suggest that "Coolie" is leading against "War 2" in advance sales.
