Disha Patani's sister, Khushboo Patani, a former army officer, has recently faced backlash on social media for her remarks concerning Lord Krishna and his relationship with Rukmini. This controversy follows earlier criticism she received for speaking out against a religious figure's views on live-in relationships.
Khushboo Patani shared a video discussing love, marriage, and live-in relationships, where she stated that Lord Krishna eloped with Rukmini to Dwarka. She suggested that this act might be viewed as against societal norms, but Krishna often defied societal expectations. This statement ignited a wave of disapproval online, with many users expressing their anger and disagreement.
One user commented that Khushboo was a "Kaliyugi Nari" (a woman of the Kali Yuga), arguing that Lord Krishna never broke any rules of society but rather removed obstacles to protect Dharma (righteousness). Another user criticized her intellect, while others defended her, pointing out her service as a retired Major in the Indian Army.
Rukmini is a Hindu goddess and the first queen of Krishna. She is considered an avatar of Lakshmi and is mainly worshipped in Maharashtra and South India. According to mythological accounts, Princess Rukmini was born on Vaishakh Ekadashi. She and Krishna loved each other and desired to marry. However, Rukmini's elder brother Rukmi was against the marriage because he was a friend of the evil King Kansa. Rukmini's parents wanted her to marry Krishna, but Rukmi proposed that she marry Shishupala, the prince of Chedi, who was also an ally of Jarasandha. To prevent this unwanted marriage, Krishna eloped with Rukmini at her request.
This is not the first time Khushboo Patani has been embroiled in controversy. She previously criticized religious orator Aniruddhacharya Maharaj for his remarks on live-in relationships. Aniruddhacharya allegedly said that men bring girls of 25 years who have already been with 4-5 men. Khushboo responded strongly, condemning his words and calling him "anti-national".
Following the backlash, Khushboo clarified that her criticism was aimed at Aniruddhacharya and not at Premanand Ji Maharaj, another spiritual figure. She also warned against the spread of fake news and misinformation, threatening legal action against those defaming her online. She stated that her remarks were strictly in response to misogynistic comments made by Anirudh Acharya and were directed only at him. She also expressed her respect for saints and spiritual traditions, emphasizing that calling out misogyny is her duty.
Khushboo Patani's outspoken nature isn't new. Before being known as Disha Patani's sister, she served as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army. She completed her early studies in Bareilly and later pursued engineering before joining the military.
