In Delhi's Narela area, two men have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two nine-year-old girls near a swimming pool. The incident occurred on August 7 at the M.K. Swimming Pool, which is located near the Lampur Bus Stand.
According to police reports, the mother of one of the victims filed a First Information Report (FIR) on August 8, alleging the gang-rape of the two girls. The police have stated that the girls' statements were recorded in front of a magistrate. The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar, 37, from Uttar Pradesh, and Munil Kumar, 24, from Bihar. Anil Kumar worked as a contractor responsible for the property’s maintenance while Munil serves as the caretaker.
The police have charged the accused under sections 70(2) (gang rape), 127 (wrongful confinement), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as sections 6 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The investigation revealed that the swimming pool, although not officially operational, was often accessed by local residents because the gate was left open. On the day of the incident, a group of girls entered the premises, and the accused allegedly separated the two victims from the group before carrying out the assault. After the assault, the two men reportedly threatened the girls against telling anyone about the incident.
During the investigation, authorities recovered a pillow cover, a bedsheet, and a digital video recorder (DVR). Police confirmed that neither of the accused had any prior criminal record.
According to Delhi Police statistics, 932 cases of rape and offenses under the POCSO Act were registered in the city between January and June of this year, compared to 1,040 during the same period in 2024.
