The Border Security Force (BSF) has been handing over the bodies of Pakistani intruders to the Pakistan Rangers following established protocols and procedures. These handovers typically occur after the deceased has been identified as a Pakistani national and after a flag meeting has been conducted between the two forces.
These incidents generally involve Pakistani nationals attempting to cross the International Border (IB) into India. In some cases, the intruders are shot dead by BSF personnel when they ignore warnings and continue their advance. After such an incident, the BSF initiates efforts to identify the deceased and establish contact with the Pakistan Rangers.
Flag meetings are then arranged at the border, during which representatives from both sides convene to discuss the incident and the handover process. The BSF typically requests documentation from the Pakistan Rangers to confirm the identity of the deceased. Once the identity is verified and the necessary paperwork is completed, the body is handed over to the Pakistan Rangers with full honor.
For example, in late December 2024, the body of an intruder who was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) while trying to enter into India was handed over to Pakistan Rangers after a flag meeting. In another instance, in early January 2023, the BSF handed over the body of Muhammad Idrish, a 59-year-old Pakistani intruder who was shot dead, to the Pakistan Rangers. Idrish was found with a Pump Action Gun, six live rounds, cigarettes and a lighter. In November 2020, the BSF handed over the body of Abdul Hamid, a resident of Chaman Khurd, Shakargarh in Pakistan, after a flag meeting.
These handovers are conducted in a cordial atmosphere, adhering to established protocols. The BSF often lodges protests with the Pakistan Rangers regarding the illegal intrusions, emphasizing the need to prevent such incidents in the future. While investigations may be conducted into the motives of the intruders, the focus remains on maintaining border security and adhering to the agreed-upon procedures for managing such situations.
