India is gearing up to celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, with a resounding theme of "Naya Bharat" (New India). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the celebrations at the iconic Red Fort in Delhi, where he will hoist the national flag and address the nation. This year's celebrations will also prominently highlight the success of "Operation Sindoor," a key milestone in strengthening India's national security and a testament to the country's resolve against terrorism.
The theme of "Naya Bharat" reflects India's aspirations to become a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant nation by 2047, aligning with the government's vision of "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India). The celebrations will serve as a platform to commemorate the continuing rise of a confident and strong "Naya Bharat" and to further galvanize the nation's progress.
"Operation Sindoor" will be a central highlight of the Independence Day festivities. The view cutter at Gyanpath, the path leading to the Red Fort, will feature the "Operation Sindoor" logo, and the floral decorations will also be based on the operation's theme. Invitation cards for the event will carry the "Operation Sindoor" logo and a watermark of the Chenab Bridge, symbolizing the rise of "Naya Bharat" and national unity.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the coordinating organization for the national event this year. The celebrations will include a ceremonial Guard of Honour, a 21-gun salute, and a special flypast with the national flag and the "Operation Sindoor" flag. Two Mi-17 helicopters will shower flower petals at the venue, one carrying the national flag and the other carrying a flag depicting "Operation Sindoor".
Following the flag hoisting, Prime Minister Modi will address the nation. After his speech, National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and "My Bharat" volunteers will sing the National Anthem and form the "Naya Bharat" logo on Gyanpath.
Approximately 5,000 special guests from various backgrounds have been invited to witness the celebrations at the Red Fort. These include members of the Indian contingent to the Special Olympics 2025, winners of international sports events, gold medalists of Khelo India Para Games, sarpanches recognized for rural change, armed forces cadets, and "My Bharat" volunteers.
In a gesture to honor the bravery and sacrifice of the defense personnel involved in "Operation Sindoor," gallantry awards will be announced on Independence Day.
To facilitate public access to the venue, the Delhi Metro will operate from 4 am on August 15. Security has been heightened in the national capital ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, with the deployment of over 20,000 personnel and the installation of CCTV cameras at the Red Fort and along all VVIP routes.
For the first time, patriotic band performances will be held across the country on Independence Day evening to celebrate the spirit of nationalism and the success of "Operation Sindoor". Bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF, and Assam Rifles will perform at over 140 prominent locations.
