Australian All-Rounder's Funny 2011 World Cup Encounter with Yuvraj Creates an Awkward Silence

Former Australian all-rounder John Hastings recently shared a lighthearted anecdote from the 2011 World Cup, involving Yuvraj Singh and a rather unfortunate incident with some hotel furniture. The Aussies were invited to Yuvraj Singh's room, which Hastings described as being as large as his own house. The room was packed with people, including Bollywood celebrities.

According to Hastings, the incident occurred at a party in Yuvraj Singh's room during the 2011 World Cup. Hastings, along with teammates Tim Paine and Brad Haddin, were in attendance. As the story goes, Hastings was trying to change the music and fiddling with a laptop. He sat on a ledge, not realizing there was a phone and other items on it. The ledge broke, sending a laptop crashing to the floor. Hastings recalls a moment of stunned silence, with everyone in the room turning to look at him.

Hastings, feeling like "a young kid" in a room full of people, including Bollywood stars, tried to fix the situation. He grabbed the phone, which was already broken, and pretended to call reception. He spoke into the phone, acting as if he was reporting the damage and taking responsibility, even though no one was on the other end of the line.

Hastings admitted that they "had a few" drinks that night. Despite the blunder, Hastings managed to avoid any fines and enjoyed the party.

The 2011 World Cup holds a special place in the memories of Indian cricket fans, as India won the title after 28 years. Yuvraj Singh was the hero of the tournament, putting in an all-round performance and was named Player of the Tournament. He scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets throughout the tournament. Yuvraj's performance was key to India defeating Australia in the quarter-final.

Recently, Yuvraj Singh shared his experiences from the 2011 World Cup with the India Women's team ahead of their World Cup campaign. He advised them to have self-belief and to stay in the moment. He also recounted advice he received from Sachin Tendulkar and coach Gary Kirsten during the 2011 World Cup, to avoid media and focus on winning the tournament.
