In a landmark event, the Indian tricolour was hoisted atop Seattle's iconic Space Needle for the first time on India's 79th Independence Day. This historic moment symbolized the strong and growing ties between India and the Pacific Northwest, marking a unique international tribute.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including the Consul General of India in Seattle, Prakash Gupta, and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. Consul General Gupta expressed the immense honor of seeing the Tiranga, another name for the Indian flag, grace Seattle's skyline. The celebration underscored the significant contributions of the Indian-American diaspora in shaping Seattle into a leading technology hub in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

The Consulate General of India in Seattle hosted the 79th Independence Day celebrations, commencing with an official flag hoisting ceremony at the Consulate premises. The ceremony featured a vibrant cultural segment, including a Bharatanatyam performance, soulful renditions of patriotic songs, and a graceful dance performance showcasing India's diverse traditions.

To further commemorate the occasion, several landmarks in Seattle were illuminated in the colors of the Indian flag. In addition, August 15th was officially declared "India Day" in the Greater Seattle area. Another iconic landmark, the World Trade Center in New York, was also illuminated in the colors of the Indian flag.

The Space Needle, a defining symbol of Seattle's skyline, stands 605 feet tall and is one of the city's most famous landmarks. Built for the 1962 World's Fair, its observation deck offers a 360-degree view of downtown Seattle, Mount Rainier, and Puget Sound. The Indian flag flying atop this iconic structure represented a high point in the celebration of India's Independence Day in the United States.

The Indian Embassy in the U.S. also hosted Independence Day celebrations in Washington D.C., where the Indian Ambassador to the U.S., Vinay Kwatra, hoisted the tricolour at India House. Members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India participated in the ceremony.

This historic event not only celebrated India's 79th Independence Day but also highlighted the strong cultural and economic ties between India and the United States, particularly in the technology sector. The Indian-American community's contributions to Seattle's growth as a tech hub were recognized and celebrated, solidifying the bond between the two nations.
