Rajinikanth's latest film, Coolie, has grossed ₹214 crore in India after six days, despite experiencing a dip in collections during the weekdays. The film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, was released on August 14, 2025, coinciding with India's Independence Day weekend.
Coolie had a strong opening day, collecting ₹65 crore. However, collections dipped by 15% on Friday, with earnings of ₹54.75 crore. The downward trend continued over the weekend, with the film earning ₹39.5 crore and ₹35.25 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. On Monday, the film collected ₹12 crore, a decent figure for a weekday. Tuesday's collections were estimated at ₹8.11 crore net in India.
Despite the slowdown, Coolie has crossed the ₹200 crore mark in India and has grossed over ₹400 crore worldwide, making it one of Rajinikanth's highest-grossing films. According to movie makers, Coolie grossed ₹404 crore worldwide in just four days. The film has also become the first Tamil movie to cross the ₹150 crore mark worldwide on its opening day.
In the Hindi market, Coolie is performing well. After five days, the film has collected ₹21.5 crore net in Hindi and ₹25.37 crore gross. On Monday, the Hindi version earned ₹1.75 crore, a 61% drop from its opening day. Coolie is expected to surpass Robot's lifetime Hindi earnings of ₹24 crore.
Coolie tells the story of Deva (Rajinikanth), a former union leader seeking answers after his friend's death. In his quest, he confronts a gangster named Simon (Nagarjuna) and his henchman Dayal (Soubin Shahir). The film features an ensemble cast, including Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra, and Aamir Khan.
The film has received mixed reviews. Coolie faces competition from other films, including War 2. It remains to be seen how well Coolie will perform in the coming weeks.
