Mandhira Kapur, Sister of Sunjay Kapur, Alleges Significant Claims: Unveiling the Story of the Late Industrialist's Kin

Mandhira Kapur Smith is the sister of the late Sunjay Kapur, the former Chairperson of Sona Comstar and ex-husband of actress Karisma Kapoor. Following Sunjay Kapur's death on June 12, 2025, a family feud has erupted over his substantial estate, estimated to be worth around Rs 30,000 crore.

Mandhira has recently come forward with serious allegations regarding the circumstances surrounding her brother's death and the handling of the family's assets. She claims that her 80-year-old mother, Rani Kapur, was coerced into signing documents shortly after Sunjay's death, during the 13-day mourning period. Mandhira alleges that Priya Sachdev, Sunjay's widow, along with a group of people, pressured Rani Kapur to sign these papers behind closed doors, without fully explaining their contents or involving other family members.

Mandhira has voiced concerns about the lack of transparency and the "hurry" to get these documents signed. She questions why the family is being denied access to these papers and what is being hidden from them. Mandhira stated she was banging on the door while her mother was inside signing papers. She also revealed that her mother does not know what papers she signed. She also said that Priya Sachdev assured her mother-in-law she would forward the papers.

Adding to the controversy, Mandhira has also raised doubts about the official cause of Sunjay Kapur's death. While it was reported that he died of cardiac arrest allegedly triggered by a bee sting during a polo match in the UK, Mandhira claims that the postmortem report does not mention any bee sting. She insists that her brother was healthy and careful about his lifestyle, making the sudden death highly suspicious. Mandhira is seeking answers and greater transparency surrounding the medical details of her brother's demise.

Mandhira has also spoken out about how her family, particularly her mother, has been treated by Sona Comstar, the company founded by her late father, Surinder Kapur. She claims that they have been treated like strangers and that her mother, who played a crucial role in supporting her father in building the business, has been excluded from the company. She said that within days, everything has been taken away from the family. She also said the names of family members were not included in obituaries and public acknowledgments. Sona Comstar responded by saying that Rani Kapur has not had any role in the company since 2019, either directly or indirectly.

Mandhira and Sunjay had a strained relationship and had not spoken for four years. She also clarified that a sibling rivalry even spilled into court when Sunjay sued her over the use of the name Sona. Mandhira changed the name to Smick and Sunjay signed an agreement that he wouldn't take the case further. However, she has now reconciled with the family to support her mother in this difficult time. She is determined to fight for her mother's rights and protect the family's legacy. Mandhira has brushed aside suggestions that she is chasing her brother's inheritance because her business is struggling.

Mandhira's claims have sparked a major family feud and raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding Sunjay Kapur's death and the handling of his estate. The legal battle over the inheritance is expected to be complex and contentious.
