An Alliance Air flight 9I756, en route from Guwahati to Kolkata, was compelled to return to its origin airport, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) in Guwahati, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, after the flight crew detected a technical issue mid-air. The aircraft, carrying 49 passengers, departed from Guwahati at 1:09 PM and safely landed back at the same airport at 2:27 PM.
Following the detection of the technical anomaly, the pilots adhered to standard safety protocols and decided to turn the aircraft back to Guwahati. An airport source stated that the flight captain identified the technical glitch by 1:42 PM and announced the flight's return. In preparation for the landing, a full-scale emergency was declared at the Guwahati airport at 1:42 PM. However, after the safe landing and subsequent assessment, the emergency status was withdrawn at 2:40 PM.
Upon landing, all passengers were safely deboarded, and the airline ensured that necessary arrangements were made for them. Some passengers received immediate refunds for their fares. While the airline coordinated alternative travel arrangements, the airport’s terminal operations team remained prepared to offer any needed support. A video circulating showed a passenger recording the situation, expressing concern about the rotors and hoping for a swift landing.
Alliance Air issued an official statement confirming the incident and the safety of everyone on board. The airline has initiated a comprehensive internal investigation to ascertain the cause of the technical issue.
