A fresh wave of accusations has hit Kerala Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, already facing scrutiny over alleged inappropriate behavior, with a trans woman activist now claiming he expressed a desire to "rape" her.
The trans woman, identified as Avanthika, has come forward with allegations that Rahul Mamkootathil contacted her initially through Messenger, subsequently obtaining her phone number. According to Avanthika, after acquiring her contact information, the MLA messaged her on Telegram, utilizing the platform's disappearing message feature. She alleges that in these messages, Rahul expressed his desire to "rape" her and suggested meeting in Bengaluru or Hyderabad. Avanthika also stated that she had previously flagged the matter to the Congress party, but no action was taken. She believes the MLA's behavior indicates sexual frustration, referencing his expressed desire to rape her and suggestions of traveling to other cities to do so.
These accusations compound existing allegations against Rahul Mamkootathil. Earlier in the day, Malayalam actress Rini Ann George, known for her role in "916 Kunjoottan," also accused a young politician of sending her inappropriate messages. She stated that the politician had messaged her inappropriately three years prior, inviting her to spend time with him. George said she came forward after learning that other women had allegedly faced harassment from the same individual. When she threatened to file a complaint, the politician allegedly responded with indifference. Furthermore, writer Honey Bhasker has also reportedly made accusations against the MLA.
Amidst these mounting allegations, Rahul Mamkootathil has resigned from his position as the state Youth Congress president. However, he maintains his denial of any wrongdoing. Despite his resignation from the Youth Congress post, he remains an MLA. Calls are growing for the Congress leadership to request his resignation from the legislative assembly as well.
