Heavy rainfall has lashed several parts of Karnataka, leading to waterlogging and disruption of normal life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for widespread rainfall across the state until June 17, 2025, signaling a strong resurgence of the southwest monsoon after a brief lull.

Bengaluru is currently under a yellow alert, indicating moderate rainfall. However, other districts are under more severe warnings. A red alert, signifying extremely heavy rainfall, is in effect for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Shivamogga. An orange alert, warning of very heavy rainfall, covers Vijayapura, Mysuru, Hassan, Davanagere, Koppal, Raichur, and Gadag.

The recent spell of heavy rain has already caused significant waterlogging in several areas. In the Dharwad district, torrential rainfall led to massive waterlogging, especially in Hanashi village. Bengaluru also experienced a heavy downpour accompanied by thunder on Tuesday night, affecting areas such as Aurad, Bidar, Bargur, Annigere, Humnabad and others.

The IMD forecasts that coastal Karnataka will experience rain from June 12 to 16, north Karnataka from June 12 to 15, and south interior Karnataka from June 15 to 16. Specifically, coastal districts like Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the possibility of extremely heavy rain in isolated places.

In response to the heavy rainfall, authorities have taken precautionary measures. In Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, schools and anganwadis remained closed on June 12.

The public is advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of intense monsoon activity. With widespread rainfall expected to continue, residents should prepare for potential disruptions and heed the advice of local authorities.
