A SpiceJet flight SG1080 from Goa to Pune experienced a mid-air incident on Tuesday when a window frame became dislodged, causing concern among passengers. The incident occurred approximately half an hour after the flight took off from Goa. A passenger recorded a video showing the loose window frame, which was later posted on social media platform X, raising questions about the aircraft's airworthiness.

SpiceJet has since issued a statement clarifying that the dislodged part was a "cosmetic (interior) window frame" and a non-structural trim component fitted for shade purposes. The airline emphasized that the incident did not compromise the safety or structural integrity of the aircraft in any way. Cabin pressurization remained normal throughout the flight, ensuring there was no impact on passenger safety.

According to SpiceJet, the Q400 aircraft is designed with multiple layers of window panes, including a robust, pressure-bearing outer pane. This design ensures passenger safety, even if a superficial or cosmetic component becomes loose. The airline also stated that the frame was fixed upon landing in Pune, following standard maintenance procedures.

Despite SpiceJet's assurances, the incident sparked panic among passengers. One passenger recounted that the window "just popped out," causing alarm, especially for a woman traveling with a baby seated nearby. The passenger also noted the presence of a protective layer behind the window, which remained intact.

The incident has prompted scrutiny regarding the airworthiness of the aircraft. The passenger who posted the video on X tagged the aviation safety regulator DGCA, seeking clarification on the matter. SpiceJet has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards, asserting that all necessary checks and protocols are being followed.
