Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for a two-day official visit at the invitation of President Javier Milei. This visit, which began on July 4, 2025, marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years. Modi's arrival in Argentina is the third leg of his five-nation tour. He was warmly welcomed at the Ezeiza International Airport.

Upon his arrival, PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm for the visit and the opportunity to strengthen ties with Argentina. In a post on X, he stated his eagerness to meet with President Milei and hold detailed discussions. The Indian diaspora in Argentina is also eagerly awaiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in Argentina, saying that the "josh is very high" for the PM's visit.

The primary focus of PM Modi's visit is to review ongoing cooperation and explore avenues to enhance the India-Argentina partnership. Discussions between PM Modi and President Milei will cover a wide range of key sectors, including:

  • Defence: Strengthening cooperation in defence-related matters.
  • Agriculture: Exploring opportunities for collaboration in agricultural practices and trade.
  • Mining: Discussing potential partnerships in the mining sector.
  • Oil and Gas: Reviewing and expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
  • Renewable Energy: Collaborating on sustainable energy solutions.
  • Trade and Investment: Identifying ways to boost bilateral trade and investment.
  • Cultural Exchanges and People-to-People Ties: Promoting cultural understanding and strengthening people-to-people connections.

India's Ambassador to Argentina, Ajaneesh Kumar, has described the partnership between the two countries as "very promising" due to its complementary nature. This visit is expected to further deepen the multifaceted strategic partnership between India and Argentina.

This is PM Modi's second visit to Argentina as Prime Minister; he had visited in 2018 for the G20 Summit. The current visit signifies the importance India places on its relationship with Argentina and its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors.
