Alia Bhatt has voiced strong concerns regarding the paparazzi's recent intrusion on her privacy after videos and images of her new residence surfaced online. The Bollywood actress took to Instagram to express her disappointment and firmly remind media outlets and fans that private spaces are not "fair game" for content.
The issue arose when videos of Bhatt and her husband Ranbir Kapoor's under-construction house in Mumbai's Pali Hill began circulating on social media. The property, which is built on the site of the late Raj Kapoor's Krishna Raj bungalow, has been under construction for approximately three years. The viral clip offered a clear view of the six-story mansion, providing glimpses of the inside. This sparked reports that Bhatt, Kapoor, and their daughter Raha had already moved into the property.
Bhatt's response was a strongly worded statement emphasizing the need to respect personal boundaries. "I understand that in a city like Mumbai, space is limited – sometimes the view from your window is another person's home. But that does not give anyone the right to film private residences and push those videos online," she wrote. She characterized the circulation of the video as "a clear invasion of privacy and a serious security issue". Furthermore, Bhatt urged media outlets to take down the content and requested that the public refrain from sharing it. She also implored people not to normalize the violation of privacy under the guise of creating "content".
This isn't the first time Bhatt has had to address such issues. Earlier in August 2025, she was filmed asking photographers to leave her building premises after they followed her inside. In 2023, she called out paparazzi for filming her in her living room from a window, decrying it as a "gross invasion of someone's privacy!".
Bhatt's recent post has garnered support from fans, many of whom are urging her to take legal action against those who initially posted the images. Some fans online agreed that she was well within her rights to speak out against the photographers. One user expressed sadness that sensitivity has been lost in today's times and that people need to introspect. Another user commented that there is no such thing as privacy in India.
This incident has reignited the ongoing debate about the boundaries of paparazzi culture and the right to privacy, particularly for celebrities. In 2021, Anushka Sharma also publicly called out a photographer for taking pictures of her and Virat Kohli at home, despite their repeated requests for privacy. Sharma also criticized publications that chose to carry those images, describing them as a blatant disregard for consent. Bhatt's firm stance underscores the importance of media etiquette and the need for greater respect for personal space in the digital age.
