In a recent interview, filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani revealed an interesting anecdote about Govinda's early career, highlighting a sense of insecurity the actor felt towards his Love 86 co-star, Rohan Kapoor. Rohan Kapoor, son of the legendary playback singer Mahendra Kapoor, came from a film family, a stark contrast to Govinda's background.

Nihalani, who worked with Govinda in several films like Ilzaam, Shola Aur Shabnam, and Aankhen, shared that despite their professional relationship, they were never really friends. He recounted an incident where Govinda felt a "complex" because Rohan Kapoor would arrive on set in a car, while Govinda traveled by auto-rickshaw. "Govinda had this complex that 'this guy Rohan always arrived in a car in front of me, while I traveled in an auto'," Nihalani stated.

To address Govinda's insecurity, Nihalani advised him to purchase his own car. As fate would have it, actor Vinod Mehra signed Govinda for a project and gave him an advance of ₹50,000. In those days, a Maruti 800 cost around ₹1 lakh. Govinda took Nihalani's advice and bought the car. Nihalani recalls Govinda bringing his new car from the showroom to a party at Holiday Inn and giving Nihalani and his wife a ride.

Govinda's journey to stardom wasn't without its initial hurdles. Nihalani mentioned that he had launched Govinda, but the actor first worked on his uncle's film, Tan-Badan. Although one reel of the film was ready, distributors were unwilling to pick it up. Govinda didn't share this setback with Nihalani because the film was temporarily shelved. It was after Love 86 that Govinda achieved widespread popularity.

Rohan Kapoor, born in 1965, began his career in the film industry at the age of 16 as an assistant director for Manoj Kumar's film Kranti (1981). He then became involved in theater, working with Shafi Inamdar in plays like Neela Kamra and Adaa. Yash Chopra gave Rohan his first break as a lead actor in the film Faasle (1985), opposite Farah Naaz. He then appeared in Love 86 (1986) with Govinda.

Following Love 86, Rohan Kapoor starred in Imaandaar (1987), where his performance was critically acclaimed. He went on to act in films like Masti, Mera Naseeb, Maha Kali, and Sur Asur. Besides acting, Rohan Kapoor also pursued a singing career, touring the world with his father at the age of nine. He released pop albums such as Oh My Darling, Dil Tera Diwana, and Ishq Rab Ki Dua.
