The Election Commission (EC) has issued a notice to Congress leader Pawan Khera after allegations surfaced that he possesses two voter IDs. The notice was prompted by accusations from BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, who claimed Khera is registered as a voter in two separate Assembly constituencies in Delhi.

According to the notice issued by the District Election Office (DEO) of New Delhi, Khera is registered in the electoral rolls of multiple constituencies, which led the poll body to address the matter. The notice, which was issued under the Representation of the People Act, directs Khera to respond to the charges by 11 am on September 8, or face potential action. The two EPIC numbers cited are XHC1992338 (Jangpura) and SJE0755967 (New Delhi).

Malviya labeled the Congress as the "quintessential vote chor" (vote thief) while sharing alleged voter details of Khera on social media platform X. He also urged the poll body to investigate the matter thoroughly, suggesting that if Khera voted more than once, it would amount to a serious breach of electoral law.

Khera responded to the controversy by stating that he had applied to have his name removed from the New Delhi constituency in 2016 after shifting his residence. He further claimed that he followed the due procedure to get his name deleted from the electoral roll and that the Election Commission is to blame for the discrepancy. Khera also demanded that the Election Commission (EC) seek an affidavit from the BJP on their allegations against him.

The Representation of the People Act, 1950, considers being registered in the electoral roll of more than one constituency a penal offense.
